30 Days of Gratitude: Finding Beauty in the Everyday

Hey Reader,

It’s November already — can you believe it?

This year we are doing 30 days of Gratitude during the month of November. When you’re walking through grief, it can be so hard to pull yourself out of the ‘it’s not fair’ spiral or that general anger at the world. So, to help that, we are turning our grumbles into gratitude.

So far I have:

Day 1: Family - yes, even though my baby girl is in heaven, I am so thankful for the time we did have with her, and I am so thankful for all my family still here Earthside.

Day 2: Students - I’m so thankful for my students! Many days I have NOT wanted to get up and get out, or even get dressed. Without fail though, my students always brighten my day. Even though teaching is sometimes the LAST thing I want to do, I’m almost always in a better mood after teaching.

Day 3: A House - being a homeowner can be SO. HARD. You are responsible for everything - but I am so grateful I’ve been blessed enough to have a home to be responsible for!

Day 4: French Bread - yes, I know, weird. But there is nothing better than comfort food in the winter, and I LOVE French toast made from a few-days-old French bread.

The theme of thankfulness shows up in a moment with my daughter. One morning last week, she ran into our room. She had just woken up, and she comes in and says very excitedly, “Daddy, come here, come see!”

So, Ian got up and followed her. She took a few steps outside our bedroom door, pointed out the back door and said, “SEE!!!??”

Ian looked out the back, didn’t see anything noteworthy, so he asked, “what is it?” Bri answered with a flourish, “It’s a BEAUTIFUL day!”

What an example. What if we all looked at the world more like our kids do? We look and just see some weeds, grass, and just the outdoors in general, while our kids look and see wonder and beauty, and then want to share it. As we start our November, my challenge to you is to not only focus on gratitude, but also to see the beauty in life. Instead of waking up and internally complaining about it being dark and cold (I’m so bad about that), let’s wake up, look outside, and be thankful for God and His creation. Let’s start our day declaring, ‘It’s a beautiful day!’ even when it doesn’t feel like it.

Cause even when it’s raining, dark, or cold, and even when it’s hard emotionally or physically, God is still there, and He can still make our day beautiful, despite the pain. Some days it might be our whole day that feels beautiful, while other days it might just be tiny glimmers here and there - but if we look for the beauty, God promises to show it to us.

The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
Psalm 19:1 ESV
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.
John 16:33 ESV

Life As an Entrepreneur

Being an entrepreneur is not for the faint of heart! I asked God to provide me more students, and provide He did! I’m now at capacity for private tutoring (praise God for answered prayers!), but I still have a few spots open in my learning pod. I’m praying that God provides me those students too!

I’m working on several new math courses, and I’d love your input! Which one would be most helpful for you (or your teen) right now? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Is there another course you would like to see? Reply and let me know! I’d love to hear ❤️

Lastly, I want to give a shout out to my sister-in-law over at Doodle Noggin. She just launched the Pen Pals Monthly Drops - a fun subscription box for less than a cup of coffee a month! Pop by and give her some love!

That’s it for this week!

You are seen, and you are loved!

See you soon,

Mrs. Holman

P.S. If you didn’t know, I already have a full Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1 course available, along with a few fun activities on my TpT site. Check them out by clicking one of the links below!
