Empowering You to Teach Math While You Juggle it All
Hi Reader!
Let’s be real: homeschooling (or teaching in general) can feel like a lot. Between lesson planning, keeping little ones occupied, and managing your household, some days it feels like there’s barely time to breathe, let alone dive into math concepts like evaluating expressions.
But here’s the thing—you don’t have to choose between being a great mom and an effective math teacher. You can do both, and I want to help!
This month, I’ve been sharing tips and resources to make teaching evaluating expressions both simple and engaging. If you haven’t already, grab the free cut-and-paste activity to give your students hands-on practice they’ll actually enjoy.
Quick Homeschool Hack: One of my favorite strategies for balancing homeschool math with mom life is to mix independent learning activities with guided instruction. While your student works through a resource like the cut-and-paste activity, you can take 10–15 minutes to knock out another task or spend time with another one of your children or another student. Then, circle back to discuss their work and reinforce the concept together. Bonus: have your child explain their thinking! Having them explain or "teach" you is an easy, fantastic way to reinforce learning and give you insight into whether or not they have TRULY mastered the concept.
This works with your curriculum books too: give your student a task that *should* take 10-15 minutes, leave them too it, and then come back at the end of that time. Have trouble remembering to circle back? Set a timer! I don't know about you, but if I don't set a timer to remind me to change activities, I lose track of time. 😅
It’s all about creating a rhythm that works for your unique family. Some days will feel seamless, and others? Not so much—and that’s okay. Give yourself grace in the process. We are fallen human beings and incapable of being perfect - and that's okay! Lean into your relationship with Jesus, especially on those hard days, and really focus on progress over perfection. Cause with God's help, You've got this!
