Simple Steps, Big Impact

What Comes First When Everything Is Important?

Hey Reader

I’ve been thinking a lot about rhythms, to-do lists, and how to juggle mom life, business, and homeschooling, and I keep running into this question:

What do you do when everything feels important?

Not just urgent, but important. Faith, family, homeschool, work, health, relationships … it all matters. And when everything matters, it can feel paralyzing trying to decide what to do first.

LIFE

Just the other day I had 5 students on my schedule, a clingy child, assignments to grade, a book project to create, and I still hadn’t finished my Bible Recap for the day OR worked out! So, what do I do?

This is where (and why!) I’ve found rhythms over schedules especially helpful.

Schedules tend to ask, “What do I have to fit in?”

While rhythms ask a more grounding question:
“What comes next?”

Not “What deserves all my attention?”

Not “What can I do perfectly?”

Just “What comes next?

When everything is overwhelming and the plates you’re juggling are dropping left and right, just pick ONE thing, and then just do it!

Doing something is better than doing nothing. It doesn’t matter which one thing you choose, it just matters that you choose and you take a step and do it.

I try to narrow my focus to one step instead of ten competing priorities.

HOMESCHOOL + WORK

Sometimes that looks like:

  • tending to the child in front of me
  • doing one small school activity instead of trying to multitask
  • finishing one task instead of starting five
  • choosing presence over productivity
  • cleaning the bedroom instead of the kitchen cause the bedroom seems more manageable in that moment

One thing after another matters more than doing something at a specific time.

This has been freeing for me, especially in seasons when my energy is limited and emotions are far more prominent than I’d like. I just have to remind myself that I don’t have to do everything. I just need to take the next step.

Here’s the kicker though: don’t overthink which step is the right one! Just take a step. Draw it from a hat if you need to! Just do something, because completing that one thing starts a cycle of momentum, and before you know it you have gotten not just one task done, but two, or maybe even three.

WHAT’S NEW + WHAT’S COMING

In the spirit of taking things one step at a time, here are a few updates from my work, since several of these tie directly into the rhythms I’ve been talking about.

  • Get Ready for Pre-Algebra Self-Paced Course is officially completed and fully released. This course is designed to help students build strong foundations without rushing, and it’s been exciting to finally see it finished and available!
  • Algebra 1: Self-Paced Full Year Course is now available with Units 1–6 ready to go, and Units 7–10 will be completed and unlocked by mid-spring. This allows you to start now and continue at a steady, realistic pace.
  • I’ve also uploaded the first six units of Algebra 1 to Teachers Pay Teachers, with more units coming soon for those who prefer individual unit access, want to teach it themselves, or have a co-op or turning group they want to use it for.
  • I’m currently working on listing an upcoming workshop (more details soon!), and I’ve begun expanding onto a few additional platforms to make resources easier to access in different ways.

I’ll share more as things roll out, but I wanted you to know what’s available now—and what’s coming next.

GRACE

In closing, I want to make sure I share that this mindset isn’t just something I came up with - it’s rooted in Scripture.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” — Psalm 119:105

Notice it doesn’t say God lights the whole road. He gives light for the next step. That can be light for the next big thing, but God is with us in the every day. He lights the next step, even the mundane.

And when I’m depleted and don’t know if I can take that next step, I come back to this promise:

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” — 2 Corinthians 12:9

We aren’t asked to have enough strength for everything — just enough grace for today. God will carry us, if we ask Him. It’s HIS power made perfect in OUR weakness. We don’t have to be strong, because we can rest in HIS strength, and I love that.

If today feels like its coming at you in every direction, my encouragement is this:
You don’t need to solve everything.

In fact, you don’t need to solve anything!

You just need to choose what’s next.

And tomorrow, you’ll choose again.

And if you are struggling in that, lean on God’s strength and wisdom. Grace meets us in faithful steps, not perfect systems.

If this idea of choosing “what’s next” resonated with you, I’d love to hear what that looks like in your day—feel free to hit reply and share!

See you soon!
